I’ve got this

My friends and I recently had a good laugh at my expense. We were spending the day in downtown Gatlinburg when we came upon a lady taking a picture of her friend. Asking if we could take a picture of them both, she handed her camera to me, and pointing to the eyepiece said, “look through here to the take the picture.” Everyone who knows me would laugh at this too because I’m rarely without a camera; in fact, at that very moment, I had my own slung over my shoulder. With a quick smile, I told the lady, “I’ve got this,” which elicited another round of laughter from my friends standing near by.

While sitting here reliving this memory, I’m thinking of all the other times I’ve said those same words to God. “Lord, I’ve got this. I don’t need Your help.” Although I might be considered somewhat of a professional when it comes to photography, I can assure you that there’s never been a time in my life when I didn’t need help from God. Quite the opposite, as a matter of fact.

Every time I’ve ever said “I’ve got this,” what I was actually doing was behaving like a child who didn’t want their parents help, and each time God replied, “Look through here. I see you. I know you really don’t know what you’re doing. I know you actually do need Me. Look through here. Give me the chance to take over. Give Me your burdens, doubts, fears, and shame. Place your trust in Me. I’ve got this.”

Every single day, we are fighting an unseen battle. On some of those days it’s easy to believe “I’ve got this,” but in reality, we don’t. Not only are we not in control, we don’t have to be. The God of angel armies fights our battles for us. He truly does have this! He’s in charge. He knew what He was doing yesterday, He has it altogether today, and He’s in control over tomorrow. We just need to constantly remind ourselves to move to the side and let Him take over.

I've got this

“God, the one and only— I’ll wait as long as he says. Everything I hope for comes from him, so why not? He’s solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, An impregnable castle: I’m set for life.” Psalm 62:5-6 Message

I've got this

“You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, Say this: “God, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and I’m safe!” That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you— under them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm. Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night, not flying arrows in the day, Not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon.” Psalm 91:1-13 Message

I've got this

“If you’ll hold on to me for dear life, says God, I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!” Psalm 91:14-16 Message
