Review of The Broken Way: a daring path into the abundant life
I’ve been a long time fan of Ann Voskamp. I love her words that read like poetry, and I love the message she always extends to her readers. I can’t help but feel as though I know her….that we are good friends, so when asked to be on her launch team for her new book, The Broken Way, I have to admit, I was ecstatic. I couldn’t wait to dive into new words from her, and when I received the book in the mail, that’s exactly what I did.
“Love bears all things like a roof bears the wind and the rain, like a roof that bears the burden of lashing storms, brutal heat. Like a bucket poured right out that could make a roof over your head to absorb storms, that gives itself as a container to carry the burdens of others.” pg. 105
This book is hardcover divided by eighteen chapters and an epilogue. It has a beautiful cover and fits in the hand quiet well. The print is a great size and easily readable.
“One of the devil’s greatest weapons is to make you believe you’re all alone,” I tell her. “You are not alone.” And we’re never alone in feeling alone. We’ve all felt as if we’re unwanted failures and it’s Jesus who cups our faces close: I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you.” pg. 186
My Final Thoughts
As I said in my intro, I’m a huge fan of Ann Voskamp. I’ve read her two previously published books, and I’m a frequent reader of her blog. This book though…this book came at a perfect time in my life. After losing my best friend to breast cancer in January, I feel as though at times I’ve been just floating through life. Voskamp’s words have been a soothing balm to my soul, a healing touch to my broken heart. I can’t stress enough how wonderful this book is. For anyone who has been struggling through life, who has been wounded by someone or something, I highly recommend this book. For me, it will be one of those books I return to again and again, and also one that I buy for all of my friends. Thank you launch team for letting me be a part of this wonderful publication.
